Ole talks about a possible defensive rotation when Man United take on West Ham: A new back-four?

Man United take on West Ham United in the FA Cup on Tuesday and some experts feel Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could rest some of his key defenders, namely Harry Maguire.

Harry Maguire has been the central figure in the Man United backline this season, featuring in each of their 23 Premier League games so far and as United are about to return to European football, many feel the club captain deserves a rest in midweek.

When asked if Harry Maguire needs to be rested, Ole told the press: “Yeah, of course I think about if he needs a rest.

“If he physically can keep going and going. The nature of a centre-back position is a different position compared to full-backs and wide men or even centre midfielders, or any other position on the pitch.

“The centre-backs are the ones who are protected mostly from the real fatigue because you’re working less.

“Then again, he’s never injured, Harry. He’s never been really badly hurt, touch wood, and hopefully he’ll be able to carry on. But I’m not sure if he’ll play on Tuesday or not. I’ve not decided yet.

With Paul and Eric, I’m not sure if they’re going to be fit. I think Eric is closer than Paul.”

We doubt if Ole will look to keep Harry Maguire on the bench with Eric Bailly still not a 100% fit and Axel Tuanzebe not at the top of his game.

Also, the Hammers are playing some great football this season so the Man United will not want to ruin his chances at picking up a silverware by naming a second string back-four on Tuesday.

Harry Maguire should start in central defence alongside Victor Lindelof and the only chance in the back will be that of Luke Shaw with summer signing Alex Telles.

Shaw has been in fine form this season but the England international is very injury prone so Solskjaer will not want to risk that by overplaying him.
