Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard had a really good pre-season with his club but for the first four games of the new season, the player has come under heavy fire for his poor show.
Lingard started the first three games of the season for Man United but he started the last game on the bench which was a clear indication that Solskjaer is not too confident with him starting every match.
And some experts believed that this poor form would also affect Jesse Lingard’s national form and Gareth Southgate might not use him during the international break.
While we might not know what would have happened since Jesse Lingard has been ruled out for both the games due to an illness but Southgate has come out to back him revealing why he remains an important part of the Three Lions squad.
“I think you’d have to say I’ve seen him have better spells for United,” the England manager said(as quoted by MEN).
“I think Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) has a young, energetic team, and I think Jesse’s pressing and the energy he brings to that has been an important part of what they’ve tried to do in the first few games.
“The inclusion of Jesse for us is partly because his form for us has always been good.
“I know there was stats on his goals. He was only involved in four games for us last season because of injury – two starts and two off the bench.
“He scored two and had a goal disallowed when he came on in the Nations League game. He had a very good World Cup.
“When you’re selecting a team, there’s half an eye on club form but also I don’t remember a game where he’s been really poor for us.”
Jesse Lingard is yet to score or assist this season for Man United but we believe he will once again be named in the first XI when United take on Leicester City right after the international break.
Juan Mata started in place of Lingard during the 1-1 draw vs Southampton but Solskjaer wants to play a high pressing game for which Lingard is anyday a better solution for the manager.
