UCL Champions League final UEFA Champions League

Liverpool had a really disappointing end to their Premier League campaign as they lost the title to Man City by just a single point.

But thankfully though, Jurgen Klopp’s men ended the season on a high as they beat Spurs to lift the Champions League trophy earlier this month.

Liverpool beat Spurs 2-0 courtesy of goals from Mo Salah and Divock Origi as the Lilywhites looked lacklustre and toothless all throughout the match.

And winning this title means a lot for the Reds players especially since they tasted defeat in last year’s final at the hands of Real Madrid.

Now all the Liverpool players have reported for international duty and it was during Brazil’s training camp that Alisson Becker revealed how a tactical shift from Jurgen Klopp helped Liverpool beat Spurs at the Metropolitano.

“The technical quality of [Liverpool and Brazil] is absurd, very big,” he said.

“We train a lot there [at Liverpool] and when we regain possession of the ball, we make vertical passes to try and seek out the best option up front.

“From last year to here, our team has evolved a lot. I can control when I have to control and we have worked more on ball possession.

“Because it was very vertical [last season], we would take counter-attacks. This year we were more consistent, more knowledgeable in-game.

“At Brazil, we try to do that too. They are characteristic of the players wanting to go up, but we have this mix of midfield players who know how to control the game and know the right moment to accelerate, to tire the opponent a little and to manage the match.”

Liverpool lost just a single game during the whole Premier League season but their Champions League endeavour was not that smooth.

The Anfield outfit had to fight hard in order to progress to the knockout stages but since then, Jurgen Klopp’s men looked like a well-oiled machine – beating the likes of Barcelona in some scintillating encounters.
