Chelsea have been on a good run of form ever since Thomas Tuchel was appointed their new manager and now there’s a big chance that the Blues might be able to finish in the top four of the Premier League.
The London side have been more solid defensively under their new boss and have conceded only two goals in eight matches across all competitions. And according to goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, this new-found form stems from the fact that each one of the players knows exactly what their role is.
“The coach gives confidence to all the players,” Mendy told the club website, as quoted by Football London. “We know what he wants so when we are on the pitch, we have to show why he has chosen us.
“He is very expressive and he shows when he likes something. When you do well on the pitch, every day at training and in the games, he pushes you.
“He stays positive but he also shows his determination, which is good for me and the team
“It was tough [against Atletico] but we won and that is what we wanted.
“The key to our success was the intensity in the game. We ran a lot, we kept the ball and they suffered. It was a good game but it’s only half-time [in the tie] so we need to stay focused.”
Chelsea have really tightened up their defensive under Thomas Tuchel and they are now just two points behind West Ham United, who occupy the fourth spot on the league table.
The win against Atletico Madrid will give them more confidence but the next few weeks will be the real litmus test for Thomas Tuchel.
Next up, Chelsea take on Man United in the league and then they face teams like Liverpool, Everton and Leeds United, all one after the other.
If the London side can come out of these series of matches unscathed then Thomas Tuchel would have surely cemented his place at the club for one whole season.
