Manchester United had a low key summer transfer window this time around with Fred being the only big name signing.

One other player who joined the club in the summer was 19-year-old right-back Diogo Dalot.

Man United played £19 million for this relatively unknown player from FC Porto whom Jose Mourinho has since branded as the “best young full-back in Europe”.

Dalot so far has made only four appearances for the Red Devils but with the performances he has given many see him as a long-term replacement to Antonio Valencia.

Diogo Dalot was never meant to be a first team regular this year but with the sparks of talent that he has shown, Jose Mourinho will surely be wanting to see more of him as the season rolls along.

And now speaking to the club, Diogo Dalot has revealed that Jose Mourinho and former Man United player Cristiano Ronaldo played a big part in him joining the club.

“Jose was a big influence on me coming here. He was very important. His history speaks for itself, the way he is coaching and the way that he has made football change,” Diogo Dalot said.

“It is the fact that is he is Portuguese too. The relationship that he has with the players is very good, and it was quite impressive to me.

“He pushed me to come here and the way that he believed in me was very good. That is why I am here. He is a big reason why I came.

“Cristiano, I don’t need to describe him because you already know him. For me, since I remember, he was the inspiration to play football and of course, if you asked me if the fact he played here was also an influence to come, then, of course, I say yes.

“The way he played here, the way he developed, was unbelievable. I want to make that step too, to improve and play for many, many years here.”

Diogo Dalot is currently recovering from an injury which is why the likes of Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young are having a free run at the right-back role.

But once the youngster returns, the fans will surely get to see much more of him.
