Chelsea have seen a revival of sorts under their new manager and right now, they look the most probable side to take up that final Champions League spot on the Premier League table.
The Blues are undefeated in their last 13 matches across all competitions and they will be looking to extend this run when they face Atletico Madrid in midweek. And speaking ahead of this key Champions League game, Ben Chilwell has claimed that the uncertainty of playing week-in-week-out is one of the main reasons why everyone giving their 100%.
The left-back told the club’s official website: ‘The manager has come in and every weekend going into the game no one knows who is going to be starting and in what position, and that is a positive thing because we have a massive squad of very talented players who are all fighting for 11 spots.
‘That just brings the best out in all of us because in training everyone is fighting for one of those starting shirts. That is why coming into the weekend we are sharp and defensively we are doing well, and that is why we are unbeaten.
‘We have been training hard. Tactically the manager is spot on. Defensively we do look solid and I can’t put my finger on what it is apart from we are training hard and everyone is fighting for 11 spots and everyone is getting a game.
‘It is important that we are getting clean sheets but on the flip side we want to be scoring more goals and winning more games.’
Under Frank Lampard, someone like Marcos Alonso was spending time on the fringes but Thomas Tuchel has also brought him back into the fold and the experienced full-back is now playing in tandem with Ben Chilwell.
And this true in every other position as the new manager keeps on rotating his starting XI in almost every game.
This experiment of sorts will stop eventually when Thomas Tuchel understands what his best XI is but until then, every player in the squad has more or less an equal chance to impress the manager.
