Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is planning to bring in reinforcements during the summer transfer window and Sheffield United’s Sander Berge could be one of them, according to Eurosport.

The report claims: “Liverpool are looking towards new midfield options for next season and are beginning to contemplate a move for Sheffield United’s Sander Berge.

“There is going to be plenty of interest in 23-year-old Berge, who has been out injured since December following surgery to a tendon in his leg.

“Aston Villa are already tracking him ahead of a potential summer move, as we reported previously, but Liverpool are now expected to join the pursuit.

“Jurgen Klopp is waiting to find out what kind of backing he will get for the next transfer window and, while a squad overhaul seems extremely unlikely, there will be a chance to bring in new faces.”

Will Liverpool get their hands on Sander Berge?

By the looks of it, Gini Wijnaldum is not going to sign a new deal at Liverpool meaning he will move out in the summer as a free agent. And someone like Sander Berge will be the ideal replacement for the 30-year-old.

But Liverpool aren’t the only club who are keen to sign the 23-year-old with Aston Villa also in the mix and if Berge does decide to leave Bramall Lane then he will want to join a club that guarantees him regular first-team football.

Liverpool have lots of midfielders in their ranks meaning the Sheffield United man will have to prove himself all over again in case he moves to Anfield at the end of this season.

Also, Sander Berge is still recovering from his surgery and will need a fair bit of time to get back to his peak form. And we are not sure Jurgen Klopp will want to take up a personal rebuilding project during a season when Liverpool will want to target the Premier League title once again.

Overall, Liverpool will find it easy to sign Sander Berge is they do decide to move for him in the summer but we feel the manager will access all his options before trying to make a bid for the Sheffield United midfielder.
