Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has not have the same level of impact which he had while playing for Napoli and it looks like the Serie A side wants him back.

The Daily Mail cites Italian reports: “Napoli will look to roll back the years by reuniting their former manager Maurizio Sarri and midfielder Jorginho this summer, according to reports in Italy.

“The pair enjoyed three years together in Naples before Sarri left to become Chelsea boss in 2018 and paid £57million to bring the player with him.

“Sarri was sacked after just a season at Stamford Bridge and is currently a free agent after losing his job at Juventus at the end of last season.

“But according to RAI Sport and Radio Kiss Kiss, the Italian is now being lined up for a return to Serie A as a replacement for Gennaro Gattuso.”

Will Jorginho be allowed to leave Chelsea?

Sarri was the one who brought Jorginho to the Premier League from Napoli in 2018 but over the past two and a half years, the playmaker has failed to find a regular spot in the first XI.

Most of the times he’s been used in rotation with N’Golo Kante and even under new manager Thomas Tuchel, it’s the same thing.

This season, Jorginho has played in 19 league matches for Chelsea and almost half of them have come off the bench. So, we don’t see why Tuchel won’t allow him to leave if Napoli are willing to pay a good sum.

Jorginho has two more years left on his current deal at the club but if the Blues make a move for someone like Declan Rice or Franck Kessie in the summer then there’s no point in holding onto the Italian any longer.

But, all this would depend if Maurizio Sarri genuinely wants to call the midfielder back to Napoli for a second spell.

UPDATE:

Jorginho’s agent has now come out to hint that the midfielder’s rumoured move to Napoli could very well turn into a reality.

‘Sarri at Napoli with Jorginho is a wonderful idea,’ his agent Joao Santos said, as quoted by Metro. ‘The player has two-and-a-half years left on his contract with Chelsea and an important salary.

‘It’s possible on a football level, certainly. We’d have to see what De Laurentiis thinks. Naples is a city that Jorginho loves very much, which marked an important part of his career. Sarri is also an important coach for him, at which he expressed himself at the highest level.’
