Rangers FC are looking to keep Ianis Hagi on a permanent deal for the upcoming season and it seems like Gerrard might just have his wish fulfilled.

Ianis Hagi joined the Teddy Bears on loan from Genk at the start of the new year and the 21-year-old has been an instant hit at the club – especially in the Europa League. And right now, Gerrard wants to keep the player at Ibrox beyond the summer.

But this was proving to be a difficult move since Italian giants Lazio have reportedly shown an interest in signing the winger from Genk at the end of this season.

This though does not seem to be the case as Lazio does not seem to be interested in making a move for Ianis Hagi, as per Giovani Becali – a top agent.

He said, as reported: “There is absolutely nothing in these stories about Ianis Hagi and Lazio.

“And the reason I know this for sure is because I have a very good relationship with the sports director at Lazio and I asked him directly whether they were interested in Ianis.

“I can say for sure Lazio are not interested in signing him.”

This means, Rangers now have the first choice to sign Ianis Hagi with the player recently claiming that he is willing to remain at Ibrox beyond the summer.

He told the Daily Mail: “I was feeling really good at Rangers. It’s really important for a football player to be happy – and I can see I was happy there. Playing at Ibrox provides a player with unique moments.

“I can’t say anything about the future right now. The only thing I’m thinking about is being 100 per cent fit and ready if the season starts again.

“This is my only focus. My mindset is to get fit and to work on some weaknesses I have.

“I have my agents, AC Talent, who work very hard for me. I have faith and trust in them. So my future is in good hands because of my agents.”

While this a really positive news for Gerrard but now the manager will have to make a tough call as to whether he wants to spend £4.5 million on a single player especially during such a massive financial crisis.
