Man United dropped points once again in the Premier League, this time drawing 1-1 against Southampton and Paul Scholes has singled out Bruno Fernandes for criticism.

Bruno Fernandes took the PL by storm when he first arrived in England but since then that initial energy has fizzled out and according to Scholes, the playmaker was all over the place on Saturday.

United failed to put the game to bed despite taking the lead in the first half and the draw means Ralf Rangnick’s side have once again failed to enter the top four of the table.

“He [Rangnick] tried to start with a 4-3-3, Scott [McTominay] holding and Fernandes and [Paul] Pogba playing higher up,” Scholes told BT Sport.

“Then he brought Pogba back and shoved Fernandes higher up, I think Fernandes could be a bit of a problem.

“As much as he’s a talented lad, when he first came to England he scored so many good goals, so many assists, but he’s all over the football pitch.”

Has Bruno Fernandes become baggage for Man United?

Paul Scholes was a great player do doubt but what he’s saying makes little to no sense at all. Yes, Bruno Fernandes misplaces a lot of passes during matches but that’s the price one has to pay if they want to find penetrating passes.

Before Bruno Fernandes came into the side, Manchester United were lacking creativity in the final third and ever since the Portuguese has joined the side, Man United have been scoring a lot more goals.

The 27-year-old is having a rough season but despite that, he’s still scored seven and assisted five goals in 23 Premier League games. He was the one who made the penetrating pass through which United scored against Southampton on Saturday and there’s no denying that Bruno is the creative fulcrum for the side. If the players infront of him start making better decisions then the No 10 will clock a lot more assists.

What Scholes wants is for Bruno Fernandes to play a more controlled and tight role in the middle of the pitch but if the Portuguese was to do that then he’ll hardly be able to make those killer passes and enter the box as the late runner.
