Liverpool become the fourth EPL club to want this Barcelona first-team star: Is a move to England inevitable?

Frenkie De Jong remains a very important player for Barcelona but the midfielder will be allowed to leave in the summer as the La Liga side looks to generate money for their new arrivals.

Barcelona received some major offers for FDJ last year but the Spanish side refused to sell him. However, the club is in need of funds right now so they are ready to listen to offers for the Dutch international.

Barca had paid €75 million to sign Frenkie De Jong from Ajax back in 2019 and in five seasons, the 26-year-old has been a mainstay in the middle of the pitch. This season, De Jong has played in 30 games and overall, he’s featured in over 200 games across all competitions. Xavi wants to hold onto him because he is a top-class player but if the Spanish side wants to return to the 1:1 rule then they will have to offload some of their biggest stars.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City have already been keeping tabs on Frenkie De Jong ever since Barca made up their mind and now Liverpool have also joined the bandwagon.

Is Frenkie De Jong going to play for a Premier League club next season?

De Jong is very happy at Camp Nou and he does not want to leave in the summer but if Barcelona do eventually push him out then a move to England seems very probable.

PSG and Bayern Munich are also interested in the 26-year-old and while these two can land Frenkie De Jong, the midfielder is not their priority right now.

Manchester United are perhaps the most interested and they have been trying to sign him for two years. However, the Red Devils could end up high and dry once again – if they cannot retain their UCL status next season.

Apart from a high wage package, De Jong will also demand top-tier European football and Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City can surely offer him that.

Liverpool require a new world-class central midfielder so Frenkie De Jong is a very realistic target but with a new manager coming in, it remains to be seen if FDJ wants to join the Anfield outfit. Also, Liverpool will enter a rebuilding phase next season and we doubt if the Barcelona man will want to be a part of it.

Arsenal and Man City are the two best teams in England right now and if they are ready to offer top dollar for the midfielder then these two have a very good chance of landing him. At Man City, De Jong will be guaranteed trophies and the way Arsenal are playing, they are also genuine contenders in every tournament they play.

Overall, with so many Premier League clubs queuing up, a move to England is very much on the cards for Frenkie De Jong but the Dutch midfielder currently earns €721,154 per week at Barcelona so whichever club wishes to sign him will have to match this.
