According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Spanish giants Real Madrid are keeping tabs on Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Romano has said: “Finally, as some fans have asked again about Trent Alexander-Arnold, I’m afraid I have no update in this moment – as I said weeks ago Real Madrid are following the situation but nothing else in terms of talks or contact so far.
“Let’s see what Liverpool will now do to keep a crucial player for them, a top player.”
Currently, Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez are the two right-backs in the Real Madrid squad but both of them are 32 years old so a summer freshen-up is very much on the cards. Madrid are looking at several options for their right-back upgrade but Trent Alexander-Arnold seems to be a top priority should Liverpool allow him to leave in the summer.
Will and should Liverpool sell off Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid?
With Jurgen Klopp leaving at the end of this season, many Liverpool players are expected to head for the exit doors but Trent Alexander-Arnold is someone who is likely to stick around.
When he burst onto the scene, TAA was exceptional but over the years, his defensive frailties have come to the forefront and almost every team in England knows that the right-back is vulnerable in 1v1 situations. Klopp has had to use him in midfield roles this season just for him to avoid getting exposed in defence but we doubt if Arne Slot will do the same.
This season, Trent has played in 25 Premier League games this season but he’s managed to win just 8 aerial duels. He’s won just 46% of the duels he’s contested and he’s been dribbled past an astonishing 51 times. Going forward, TAA is exceptional but on the flip side, he’s won just 20 tackles during the 1909 minutes he’s been on the pitch.
Ideally, with a club like Real Madrid eyeing him, Liverpool should cash in on full-back because his contract expires in 2025 and he is still valued at €70 million but we doubt if Liverpool can afford to lose him during the upcoming window.
The Reds will look to overhaul their squad for their new manager and they are targeting two new midfielders, one new winger and at least one new central defender in the summer however we doubt if they will have enough money to go and find a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Even though Arne Slot would prefer a more well-rounded right-back, the Liverpool management won’t be able to go out and spend a massive amount of money for a replacement. Unless Real Madrid are ready to offer something crazy like €100-110 million(which we doubt they will) Liverpool will not want to lose TAA.
