Jason Holt might be looking to head out of Rangers FC at the end of this season – according to a report in the Football Insider.
Holt has been with Rangers since 2015 but over the past two seasons, the midfielder has fallen down the pecking order under Steven Gerrard. Last year he was sent out on loan to Fleetwood Town and this season he is out on loan to St Johnstone.
And with his contract set to expire this summer, it seems like the Gers have no plans of handing him a new deal at Ibrox anymore.
The report claims: “Jason Holt is looking for a new club as Rangers prepare to let him go in a matter of weeks, Football Insider understands.
“Ibrox sources have told Football Insider the club are looking to get Holt off their wage bill and have no plans to extend his current deal.
Rangers will always hold a special place in his heart, but Jason Holt knows his time at Ibrox is coming to an end.
He says: "I’ve not really heard much from Rangers to be honest, as I stand just now my contract is up at the end of May so as far as I am aware I will be leaving" pic.twitter.com/A7zLPODhIO— Rangers FC & Linfield FC (@bluesbrothers86) April 23, 2020
“He has almost certainly played his last game for the Glasgow giants amid the strong possibility the SPL season may end prematurely in any case.”
Last season, he was pretty good with Fleetwood Town and this season too he has managed to make 17 appearances for St Johnstone in the Premiership.
But clearly Gerrard feels the player is surplus to his requirements at Rangers right now which is why the manager has no intentions to inflate his wage bills by offering him a new deal.
The report claim Jason Holt is already in the process of looking for a new destination and given the amount of game time he’s seen over the past two years, we do not think there will be any trouble for him to secure a free transfer.
