Sevilla have confirmed that Monchi would return back to the club as the sporting director after having left the club in 2016.

Arsenal recently parted ways with Sven Mislintat in February and since then Monchi had been linked with the job at Arsenal.

And he seemed to be a perfect fit since the 50-year-old had previously worked with Unai Emery during the Spaniard’s time at Sevilla.

But now that Monchi has headed back to his former club, many pundits and fans have been left truly disappointed.

A statement from Sevilla read: “Sevilla FC and Monchi have come to an agreement for the San Fernando native to return to the post he left two years ago – sporting director of Sevilla Football Club.”

But who exactly is Monchi and why is everyone so frustrated with the fact that the Gunners have failed to bring him on board.

Monchi is one of those rare one-club men who played his whole professional career at Sevilla but his real talent came out when Sevilla were relegated from the top division and he was appointed their director of football.

He was given two objectives by the board: develop the club’s youth system and implement a vast scouting policy inside and outside Spain.

And Monchi did just that as reports claim that at one point he had a network of over 700 scouts around the world.

Monchi is credited with finding talents like Jesus Navas, Sergio Ramos and Alberto Moreno.

And given that he had closely worked with Unai Emery in the past, he would have been a perfect fit for Arsenal.

But now that Monchi had chosen to head back to Spain we will have to wait and see who Arsenal appoint as their new technical director.
