Arsenal seem to have stolen a march over their Premier League rivals Chelsea in the signing of Feyenoord’s young midfielder Orkun Kokcu – as per the rumours.

A couple of weeks ago, Dutch football journalist Martijn Krabbendam had revealed that Chelsea and Arsenal are amongst an array of clubs who are preparing to launch a bid for the 19-year-old.

“There has been an offer from Feyenoord, and he has refused,” Krabbendam said, as reported.

“Feyenoord are offering something, and Kökcü wants more, you shouldn’t think that that boy is suddenly asking for millions.

“It’s no secret that Arsenal has already spoken to Kokcu’s agents, the Seville clubs are also very interested in the midfielder. Chelsea is still playing in the background. Also, the Italian clubs Atalanta and AS Roma are still very interested.”

And now as per the reports coming out of Netherlands, Arsenal are on the verge of submitting a bid for Orkun Kokcu and they are confident an arrangement can be agreed upon pretty soon.

Will the Orkun Kokcu miss be a big blow for Chelsea?

Arsenal are set to send Dani Ceballos back to Spain while superstar Mesut Ozil has also run his race at the Emirates. And so in such a scenario, the signing of someone like Orkun Kokcu could be a key constituent in Mikel Arteta’s plans next season.

Chelsea have also been keeping track of the whole situation but we don’t think Frank Lampard will be too worried about missing out on the 19-year-old since he currently has a number of youngsters who can do the same job.

Also, the Blues are about to sign playmaker Philippe Coutinho from FC Barcelona.

Arsenal are reportedly going to bid somewhere in the region of £20 million for Orkun Kokcu which some people believe might not be enough since the attacking midfielder still has three years left on his current deal. This would mean the Gunners will have to submit an improved bid in the coming months.
