Brendan Rodgers Leicester City vs Man United

Brendan Rodgers left Celtic FC a couple of weeks ago in order to take charge of Premier League club Leicester City. And this move has not gone down too well with the Celtic faithful.

If Rodgers stayed back at Celtic Park until the end of the season, he surely would have picked up multiple silverwares but instead, he chose to take charge of a side who are not fighting for trophies this campaign.

A number of Celtic fans went to extreme lengths in order to bash their former boss but now Oxford United manager Shaun Derry has revealed the possible reason why Brendan Rodgers was in such a hurry to head for the exit doors at Celtic.

“Celtic and Rangers are standalone clubs in their own right in terms of history and tradition,” he told Express Sport.

“They’re monsters of the game, they really are. But the Scottish Premiership is nothing like the Premier League.

“When you’ve got the challenge of pitting your wits against the best every week, it’s what every manager wants.

“Brendan has experienced the Premier League before and came very very close to winning it, he knows it inside out.

“The challenge of going and doing what he did at Celtic, he’s ticked every box already, with the resources that he’s had.

“He’s won the leagues and the cups, so to see the negativity from certain areas is understandable to a degree but you want what’s best for yourself as a football manager.

“And sometimes opportunities come up at difficult times. And perhaps in a different situation, it could have taken place at the end of the season.

“Should Brendan have taken that gamble? I’m not sure he could have, you need to strike while the iron is hot, he had to make the move.”

To be honest this is not the first time someone from the Premiership has pounced on the opportunity to move to the Premier League but this trait is certainly not associated with managers.

Celtic FC have now appointed Neil Lennon as the interim boss until the end of the season while the management is busy looking for a replacement for Brendan Rodgers.
