Man United picked up yet another win in the Premier League, this time beating Aston Villa 3-0. And finally, Paul Pogba managed to get his name on the scoresheet.
The midfielder has used the lockdown period to return to full fitness and since the resumption, he along with Bruno Fernandes have made a real positive impact in midfield for the Red Devils.
And speaking after the match, Man United legend Roy Keane tried to explain why Paul Pogba looks like a new-found talent ever since his return to the starting XI.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Keane said, via Metro: ‘What I would say about Pogba, we’ve been saying for the last year or two that he needs to take more of a lead with the team.
‘I don’t think he wants to be a leader. I think he’ll enjoy that Harry Maguire has come into the club, showing different leadership skills.
‘And obviously Fernandes, leadership skills on the pitch. And I think Pogba likes that.
‘I don’t think he necessarily wants to be the main guy. He probably wants to be the main guy on the social media side of things, but on the pitch, he’s thinking, “I’m glad of that, I’ll just be under that radar”.
‘We’ve always said he’s got that quality, and I think he never really wanted to be that leader at Man United.
‘He doesn’t have to be now because he’s got a couple of other lads around him and he looks like he’s enjoying himself a bit more.’
Paul Pogba is truly relishing the new role at the club, one where he does not have to shoulder all the responsibility and this helps him play his natural game.
Bruno Fernandes has been doing all the creative work in and around the final third meaning Pogba can still a bit deeper and dictate the pace of the match.
It still remains to be seen if he puts pen on paper to a new deal at Man United but right now he’s playing with a smile of his face, something which we have hardly seen him do during the reign of Jose Mourinho.
