Premier League Chelsea performed a coup last week as they managed to agree on a principle deal to sign centre-forward Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

A few days ago, Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann had hinted that Werner could be on his way out of the club and immediately everyone was certain that Liverpool were about to wrap up this transfer. The Anfield outfit were the favourites after all.

“There is nothing we can do about it. He knows what he has in Leipzig and also what he has with me,” said Nagelsmann, as per the Independent. He gets many chances to develop himself. I don’t know if it will help him that much if I tell him every day.

“A player has to feel that he can get better. If he doesn’t feel that, it wouldn’t do any good if I kept on telling him to stay here. In the end, it is his life, his career, he can decide that. I can’t think of anything new to say to Timo.”

But out of nowhere, various reports have since claimed that Chelsea have managed to convince Timo Werner to join the Stamford Bridge outfit which has come as a major wreck to the Liverpool hierarchy.

Matt Law wrote for the Telegraph: “Timo Werner has agreed to join Chelsea, who are on the verge of tying up a deal to sign the forward from Red Bull Leipzig.

“As exclusively revealed by Telegraph Sport on Tuesday, Chelsea have moved to sign Werner after Liverpool did not meet his release clause which is reported to be worth around £53 million.

“Werner has now agreed to join Chelsea on a contract worth almost £200,000-a-week and the club are now expected to agree a deal with Leipzig.”

Now in another major development, RB Leipzig chief Oliver Mintzlaff has denied the agreement of any deal with Chelsea over the transfer of Timo Werner which means Liverpool still have a fighting chance to land the 24-year-old.

But this joy will be really shortlived for the Liverpool fans since Football London are claiming that the deal is still very much on and Lampard has already agreed on the terms with the centre-forward while the official paperwork will be wrapped up in the coming few days.

The report claims: “While Mintzlaff’s statement to Sky Germany may seem like the move is in doubt, Chelsea remain confident of confirming the deal for the 24-year-old before his £53million release clause expires on June 15.

“Football.london understands that only final details are left before the contract is delivered, meaning that fans alerted by Mintzlaff’s comments can take a deep breath.”
