Yesterday there were reports that Blackpool had been trying to sign Rangers FC keeper Jak Alnwick on a season-long loan move. And after just one day the 26-year-old has agreed on a deal.

Jak Alnwick started his career at Newcastle United but in 2017, the 26-year-old joined Rangers FC after moving through Port Vale.

Last season he was sent out on loan to Scunthorpe United and now Steven Gerrard has once again chosen to loan him out – this time to Blackpool.

Blackpool confirmed the loan signing through an official statement which read: “Blackpool can confirm the signing of Jak Alnwick on a season-long loan from Rangers, subject to international clearance.”

Upon joining Jak Alnwick said: “I’m delighted to be here and delighted to be a part of what’s going to be with the club moving forward.

“When you come to top clubs, you’re always going to have to compete for your place and that’s what I’m going to do. I’ll give everything I’ve got and hopefully play as many games as I can.”

And this move to Blackpool for Jak Alnwick might be pretty good news for Wes Foderingham.

Last season, Foderingham fell down the pecking order at Rangers due to the arrival of Allan McGregor and he had himself claimed that he would be open to moving out.

The shot-stopper had said: “I see myself as a No 1 goalkeeper. Sitting on the bench isn’t something that I want to do long term.

“The manager’s aware of that so there will be talks at the end of the season. We’ll see what we can do.”

But now that Gerrard has chosen to let Jak Alnwick move out on loan experts feel the manager will not risk losing Foderingham too.

Allan McGregor will most certainly be the Gers No 1 next season too but now with Jak Alnwick gone, Gerrard would want a solid back up to his veteran keeper.

So if sense prevails, Wes Foderingham should be staying at Ibrox until the end of the 2019-20 season.
