AFC Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe has agreed to terms on a loan deal with Rangers FC.

As per reports, the Cherries man will arrive at Ibrox on an 18-month contract meaning Steven Gerrard’s longtime wish for a third striker has finally been fulfilled.

But according to Rangers legend Ally McCoist, the arrival of Jermain Defoe could be a serious cause of concern for Alfredo Morelos.

“If he hits the ground running and starts scoring goals, let’s not forget Morelos as well because Morelos has put the ball in the back of the net so far this season,” McCoist told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT.

“Whether that now opens the window for him [Morelos] to move, it will be interesting to see.

“I think Rangers will receive bids in the window for Morelos, who has been excellent. Certainly the Defoe signing, what a boost for everyone.”

Morelos has been in top form since the start of the season which rightly has attracted a lot of attention from a number of top European clubs.

The Colombian himself has expressed his desire to play in the Premier League one day and with the arrival of Jermain Defoe at Ibrox, this dream could be fulfilled very soon.

While Alfredo Morelos has been banging in goals for the Gers but Gerrard has not been too impressed with the player’s constant bookings and suspension.

In Defoe though, the Rangers boss will get a much more composed and experienced player.

Having said this, we do not expect Jermain Defoe to jump straight into the action since the Englishman has received very little game time this season under Eddie Howe while Alfredo Morelos has managed to score 20 goals.
