Jesse Lingard Man United news
Jesse Lingard Man United

Despite heavy interest from Newcastle United as well as West Ham United, Manchester United have decided not to let Jesse Lingard leave on deadline day.

In the evening, the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope had claimed that have offered a £3m loan fee + £4m survival bonus for Jesse Lingard and many thought this could be the offer Man United were waiting for.

He wrote on Twitter: “Breaking: Understand NUFC have offered a £3m loan fee + £4m survival bonus for Jesse Lingard & are waiting for MUFC response.”

But soon after this news, Fabrizio Romano has come out to make it clear that Manchester United have no intentions to let Jesse Lingard leave and are not negotiating with either Newcastle or West Ham.

He wrote: “Manchester United want to keep Jesse Lingard at the club. NO deal, NO chance. They’re not accepting Newcastle approaches, the position on club side is clear.

“Lingard’s disappointed as he wanted to go but club not open to negotiate with Newcastle or West Ham.”

Major blow for all parties?

Jesse Lingard was really inclined to move out on loan for the second half of the season but now that United have refused to let him leave, the forward is surely going to be majorly bitter.

Initially, he wanted to head to West Ham but Man United were not ready to send him to a direct top four rival so, in the end, he was even prepared to join relegation battling Newcastle United.

If Romano’s claimed something then it’s probably true meaning both the Magpies and West Ham have missed out on a player who is not even a first-choice forward for Ralf Rangnick.

Or is he?

A fresh chance for Jesse Lingard?

Apart from Man United, all the other parties are really frustrated with this decision but there might be some logic behind United’s stubborn call.

Mason Greenwood will not be playing for the club after the recent incident so the position down the right flank is up and open for grabs.

Jadon Sancho has been really poor this season so there’s a significant chance that Ralf Rangnick might be looking at Jesse Lingard as someone who is going to fill up that void.

Logically, Sancho should be the one who should be operating in that area but even if that happens, Lingard could get a lot more game time as the backup. This season, he’s played 97 minutes of football in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old is more comfortable playing a No 10 role but his current situation is such that he will be happy if he manages to get even a start.

If Jesse Lingard remains at Manchester United beyond deadline day then surely it’s Ralf Rangnick who’s stopped him from moving out and in that case, it’s directly linked with what has happened with Mason Greenwood over the weekend.
