London side Chelsea are no longer interested in making a move for FC Porto midfielder Jesus Corona, according to a report in the Express.

Recently his agent had admitted that the Premier League club had made contact over a possible summer deal but it looks like the Blues are ready to back off thanks to the Chelsea director.

The report claims: “Chelsea made tentative enquiries to sign Porto winger Jesus Manuel Corona prior to the coronavirus break but they have now withdrawn their interest after chief Marina Granovskaia decided to focus her attention elsewhere.

“Chelsea have already signed Ajax ace Hakim Ziyech and were looking to add more firepower prior to the COVID-19 suspension.

“Granovskaia’s stance changed when she found out RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner became available following Liverpool pulling out of negotiations.”

This is a major setback for Jesus Corona since a move to Chelsea will have been a much-needed upgrade in his career but it looks like the deal is not going to happen. But still, his agent thinks the 27-year-old will be able to join a big club.

“When Corona renewed the contract, for two more years, that is, until 2022, the value of the termination clause decreased,” he told A Bola, as reported.

“In reality, there have been conversations with several clubs, but with the emergence of Covid-19 everything changed, and for three months the clubs were practically stopped.

“But the scenario is going to start to change and I think the market is going to start to cheer up because the clubs are co-hosting the needs they have.

“They (Chelsea) asked about his situation. But the same thing happened with other clubs, although none of them exercised a formal approach for Corona.”

Right now Chelsea have some pretty great midfielders at their disposal and if they were to add Kai Havertz into this mix, Jesus Corona might not even get a chance to play regularly.

So, Chelsea have clearly taken the right call by backing out of this deal especially since they need a fair bit of money to wrap up deals for Havertz and most importantly Timo Werner.

Jesus Corona has been with FC Porto since 2015 and this season he has scored four and assisted 10 goals in just 26 Liga NOS games.
