Liverpool take on Spurs at Anfield this weekend and before that defender, Joe Gomez has returned back to full training.

Joe Gomez started the 2018-19 season as the centre-back partner to Virgil Van Dijk and the youngster truly looked world class beside the Dutchman.

The pair looked unbeatable at times but then Gomez suffered an ankle injury in December which halted his progress.

Initially, the player was supposed to make a comeback towards the end of January but when that did not happen, Jurgen Klopp delivered some bad news.

The manager revealed that Joe Gomez had to undergo surgery for his injury and would take more time to get back into full fitness.

And now that the youngster has returned back to action, most people are wondering when they will see him out on the pitch.

While the manager has claimed that Joe Gomez is pretty close to making a first-team comeback but unfortunately he wouldn’t be involved on Sunday vs Spurs.

And to be very honest, even if Joe Gomez was deemed fully fit and available for selection, Jurgen Klopp will never decide to throw him back amidst such a crunch encounter.

So this Sunday when Pochettino men visit Merseyside, it will be the partnership of Joel Matip and Virgil Van Dijk who will be handed the responsibility of stopping Harry Kane and co.

After the clash vs Spurs, Liverpool will take on Southampton next Friday following which they head back into the Champions League.

Before they play Porto, Jurgen Klopp might look to rest some key players and this is when Joe Gomez might make a comeback possibly vs the Saints away from home.
