Rangers FC appointed Steven Gerrard as their new boss early on during the summer after a catastrophic season and the former Liverpool midfielder has done a pretty decent job during the first couple of months.

Gerrard has already made ten signings during the summer transfer window and at the same time sent a lot of underperforming players out of the club.

And the fans up until now are quite content with the progress the club have made under the new job and most of them are pretty confident that their club will be able to win the Scottish Premiership this coming season.

But former Celtic striker John Hartson thinks quite differently.

According to Hartson, there is no way that the Gers will be able to lift the Premiership trophy this season simply because the Hoops are leaps and bounds ahead of them.

Talking to Planet Football, John Harston said: “Stevie is a class act and he will certainly make an impact in that dressing room, but he has taken on a massive job in his first challenge as a manager,

“I think he will find it almost impossible to finish ahead of Celtic this season as the gap between the two clubs has grown massively in recent years.

“Don’t forget, they finished behind Aberdeen last season, so the idea that they can leap up two places and cut down a big gap with Celtic is not realistic in my eyes.”

The Football Fan Base view:

Steven Gerrard may have brought in ten new signings during the summer but the goalless draw against FC Shkupi has week showed just how incapable they are at breaking down teams and scoring goals.

So that is one position that the manager must fix before the new season kicks off next month.

The Light Blues finished 12 points behind champions Celtic during the 2017-18 season and from what we have seen so far, this Rangers team does not look like one which can claw down a gap of 12 points and then overturn the Hoops.
