Rangers FC take on Ayr United in the League Cup this midweek and Steven Gerrard is ready to hand starts to a number of his second string players.

And amongst the men who are expected to start the game against Ayr, midfielder Jordan Rossiter’s name shines the brightest.

Rossiter has not played for the Rangers first team ever since he picked up a knock during the final day of the previous season but the former Liverpool man could make his very first appearance under Steven Gerrard on Wednesday.

Jordan Rossiter was expected to play a key role under Gerrard from the very beginning of the new season but he once again picked up a knock during pre-season forcing the midfielder to be sidelined for a couple of more months.

But Rossiter started the Rangers reserve game vs Motherwell on Monday which means the midfielder is in line to make an appearance during the League Cup game vs Ayr.

Jordan Rossiter played 45 minutes of the game and was withdrawn during half-time which is an even bigger sign that Steven Gerrard is planning to include him for Wednesday’s plans.

And Jordan Rossiter was not the only player who made an appearance for the reserve team as striker Umar Sadiq also played 45 minutes alongside summer signing Eros Grezda.

But the return of Jordan Rossiter will surely be a huge boost for the manager given that he could finally so well deserved rest to Scott Arfield.
