Rangers FC signed more than a dozen players during the summer transfer window under new manager Steven Gerrard in a bid to challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title during the 2018-19 season.

But apart from buying new players, the Light Blues also sold eight players during the transfer window while as many as seven players were sent out on loan spells.

And amongst the players who were sold was attacking midfielder Josh Windass who moved to Wigan for a fee of around £1.98 million.

Now speaking for the first time since the move, Windass has spoken out about his former club claiming Rangers took the wrong decision by selling him off despite him wanting to stay at Ibrox.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Windass said: “It was a strange one – I was just about to get on the bus for the Maribor game when I got a text from someone saying that Wigan had put a bid in and Rangers had accepted it.

“I don’t think it should have been accepted. I just got my stuff off the bus and drove down to Wigan to see what they had to say.

“The manager told me I would be playing out wide, and I prefer playing down the middle. For the sake of my own career, I need to play in a position where I can affect the game a lot more.

“I think playing out wide, I wouldn’t really have scored the goals for Rangers in that position. In the past, I haven’t really scored from playing out wide.

“I don’t think the offer should have been accepted by the board – but it is what it is, and I’m happy to be where I am now.”

Josh Windass was one of the better performers for Rangers during the 2017-18 season scoring 18 goals in 41 games which prompted many to believe that the midfielder will feature heavily under Steven Gerrard this season.

But clearly, the new manager had other ideas.
