Kai Havertz to Chelsea

Arsenal and Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz during the summer – as per reports.

The 20-year-old is a product of the Leverkusen academy and this season, he has been one of the standout players for the Bundesliga side scoring six goals and providing five assists in 22 league matches.

And so it was no doubt that a number of top European clubs had been looking to sign him at the end of the season.

The player has two years left on his current deal at Leverkusen and the chances of Arsenal and Chelsea received a significant boost after former Leverkusen sporting director Wolfgang Holzhauser hinted that Havertz’s future could lie outside of Germany.

“Kai would gain experience abroad that he probably would not have in Germany,” Holzhauser told Goal. “And not all players of this age and with this talent who go to Munich have developed positively there.

“It is important that Havertz is looking for a well-run club that corresponds with excellent opportunities for play. It would make no sense, for example, to go to a club like Atletico Madrid. Kai wouldn’t fit in there. His style of play would make him ideal for Barcelona or Arsenal.”

Now though it seems like Kai Havertz has no intentions of moving out of Germany since as per the latest reports, the midfielder wants to join Bayern Munich during the summer.

As per TransferMarkt, the player has an €88m price tag and it seems like the Bavarians manager has set his sights on the youngster.

This will surely be a big blow for both Chelsea and Arsenal since they are really inclined towards bringing in midfield reinforcements for the upcoming season.

But at the same time, the decision from Kai Havertz is not at all shocking primarily because any player right now will choose a move to Bayern Munich rather than Chelsea or Arsenal.

Both the London clubs are struggling to get back amongst the big boys and they are being managed by two rookies so the last thing Kai Havertz would want to do is to go to a new league and feel stranded.

Also, if the midfielder did agree on moving to the Premier League we doubt if the interested clubs would be able to gather the huge transfer fee.
