Manchester United are now the frontrunners in signing defender Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli at the end of the 2019-20 season, as per the Daily Mail.
Last year, Napoli fought really hard to hold onto the centre-back as they rejected one bid after another. But this summer they will have no other option but to let him leave since the Serie A side are severely in need of funds.
The report states: “Manchester United are now reportedly in pole position to land Kalidou Koulibaly this summer with his club Napoli willing to lower the price of the in-demand defender.
“The Red Devils have been long time admirers of the centre-back who turns 29 this month and has attracted interest from an array of top European clubs.
“Should he leave Naples in the summer then United are favourites to land him in a deal which could be for just £80million according to Italian publications La Repubblica and Il Mattino.”
Will Man United try and sign Kalidou Koulibaly?
European giants like PSG, Barcelona and Real Madrid have all reportedly backed out from this deal which is great for all the Premier League clubs interested in signing the 28-year-old.
Manchester United are being considered the favourites but we think league rivals Liverpool and Chelsea still have a big chance of signing the centre-back.
Firstly, Ole is busy chasing players like Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish who are cumulatively going to cost somewhere around £180 million. And if both these transfers go through, then surely Man United will not be too enthusiastic to make a move for Kalidou Koulibaly since Napoli want £80 million for their most prized possession.
Also, both Liverpool and Chelsea have the financial power to pay such a huge transfer fee which is why they are still very much in the race.
So yes, Kalidou Koulibaly will be the perfect partner to Harry Maguire next season at Old Trafford but we are confident, Solskjaer does not have the defender at the top of his transfer wishlist.
