Chelsea and Spurs are both out in the market looking to sign a new central defender during the January transfer window and it seems like both of them have set their eyes on Kalidou Koulibaly.

Kalidou Koulibaly joined Napoli from Genk in 2014 and right now the 28-year-old is one of the leading central defenders in world football.

During the summer a number of big clubs were interested in signing him up but somehow Napoli managed to hold onto him. But it seems like the defender could very well be on his way out this month.

As per the latest reports coming out of Italy, Chelsea, as well as Tottenham, have made contact with the representatives of Kalidou Koulibaly in a hope to secure his signing.

The Blues did not make any signing during the summer due to the transfer ban and its no secret that Frank Lampard will be eager to bring in some defensive reinforcements during the January transfer window.

Also now that Jose Mourinho is managing Spurs, we can expect the Portuguese to bring in some fresh players this month.

It is still unclear whether Napoli would want to part ways with Kalidou Koulibaly this month but as per the reports, the club will take nothing less than £100 million for the defender.

While Chelsea so have this much money to splurge since they did not make a signing during the summer but can Spurs really afford to spend that much money?

The Lilywhites have never been known to be big spenders but Daniel Levy has promised a steady flow of cash during his managerial regime meaning they will surely try and fight Chelsea for the signature of Kalidou Koulibaly.

The defender is out of contract at Napoli in 2023 meaning Napoli are in no hurry to offload him and this is why many experts believe the Serie A outfit will not be eager to lower their asking price.
