Mesut Ozil has really had a roller-coaster 2019-20 season with Arsenal.

Under Unai Emery, the playmaker was shunned to the sidelines and it was quite evident that he would be sold off by the January transfer window.

He failed to break into the first XI and it was only a matter of time before Mesut Ozil was seen playing for a new club. Now though all that has changed with the arrival of Mikel Arteta.

The newly appointed Arsenal boss has clearly shown his faith on the German which was aptly repaid by him when the Noth London side beat Manchester United 2-0 at home in midweek.

The playmaker bossed the game at the Emirates and it seemed like he was playing with a renewed spirit under the management of his new manager.

And speaking after the match, Arteta has revealed that more than his physical growth, the former Real Madrid man was the standout player for Arsenal against United simply because of his will and desire.

Arteta said via The Metro: ‘I haven’t checked the physical stats yet, I was checking on other things that are, in my opinion, more relevant. But just by looking at him and what he did on that pitch, I would say so yes.

‘He’s got the same capacity to run like any other player. It’s about will and about wanting to do it.

‘To all the players individually and collectively, with what I expect from them and what they have to expect from each other when they are in that football pitch.

‘He [Ozil] is no different.’

There’s no denying that Mesut Ozil is a class apart but unfortunately, he has not been able to maintain consistently – something which has really impacted his career at the Emirates.

But if the player can manage to play with the same level of energy as he did against Man United then surely he will be one of the first names on Mikel Arteta’s team-sheets.
