The football world was sent into a frenzy when Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola claimed that Kevin De Bruyne has a £223 million release clause on his current contract.

Kevin De Bruyne returned back to the Premier League in 2015 from Germany and since then the Belgium International has turned himself into one of the best playmakers in world football.

De Bruyne arrived on a six-year contract and the playmaker signed an extension in January this year meaning he is now signed up with Man City up until 2023.

But Pep Guardiola recently hinted at the fact that not even €250 million will be enough to persuade him to sell Kevin De Bruyne.

“He’s very good. He’s a very dynamic player,” Guardiola told Universo Valdano.

“[Leeds United boss] Marcelo Bielsa told me he was his favourite player. He does everything.

“The other day, I met his parents and you often understand how the children are when you know the parents.

“He’s an incredible boy. The clause is €250m. I’m sorry, he’s not for sale.”

And immediately after this statement, multiple reports started claiming that Kevin De Bruyne has a whopping £223 million release clause on his contract.

But now Pep Guardiola has come out of clear the air about the release clause of Kevin De Bruyne saying:

“I don’t know what his release clause is.

“The journalist asked if we’d sell him for 250million (euros) and I said no, but that is my personal opinion. Here in England, there are no release clauses. You have to negotiate with the club.”

After a wonderful campaign last time around, Kevin De Bruyne was scheduled to play a key role in the title defence for Manchester City. But the Belgium International suffered a knee injury during a training session and has been ruled out of action for three months.
