Manchester City won the Premier League in emphatic fashion last season and Guardiola’s side picked up the new campaign right where they had left off.

The Citizens earned a comfortable victory over Arsenal during the opening weekend of the 2018-19 season and all seemed rosy for the Blue Half of Manchester.

That was until Wednesday when Manchester City released a statement claiming that their midfielder Kevin De Bruyne had suffered a ligament injury.

The midfielder returned to training only last week after a wonderful campaign with Belgium in the World Cup but it seems that Kevin has already injured himself.

But this is only one part of the bad news as initial reports are claiming that the injury(which he sustained during training on Wednesday) is pretty serious and Kevin De Bruyne could be sidelined for as long as three months.

A City statement read: “Kevin De Bruyne is undergoing tests on his right knee after sustaining an injury at training on Wednesday

“The extent of the problem is not yet known and we will bring you further updates on Kevin’s condition in due course.”

While City have refused to put a return date on the player but sources close to the club are claiming that this injury is pretty similar to the one that he suffered back in 2016 when De Bruyne was out for ten odd weeks.

The 27-year-old started the game against Arsenal and game on as a late substitute in order to get some playing time under his belt.

De Bruyne was easily the best player for Manchester City last year – scoring 8 goals and providing 16 assists in the Premier League. So his absence for three-odd months will surely sting Pep Guardiola and his plans for the season.

But on the other hand, the injury to De Bruyne could be a blessing in disguise for a number of top clubs in the league.

If we were to believe that the midfielder is indeed out for three months then his return back is expected to be somewhere around mid or end November. And during this period, Manchester City are scheduled to play a number of the top clubs in the league.

City play the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Man United and West Ham all before the end of November while they take on Chelsea during the first week of December. And with Guardiola’s star player out of the equation, the rivals will certainly have one less thing to worry about.
