Lionel Messi has been sensational with Barcelona and many a time this season, the Argentinian has carried the whole team all by himself.
Unfortunately though, the same cannot be said about him when he wears the national team’s jersey.
Playing for Barcelona, Lionel Messi has managed to win almost every trophy possible but with Argentina, the little magician has been able to bag only an Olympic gold medal in 2008 and went on to become the runners-up in the FIFA World Cup in 2014.
Last summer though everyone was hoping to finally see some Messi magic during the Russia World Cup. But once again the South Americans failed to deliver.
And much like every other time, a lot of ill was spoken about Lionel Messi and his failure to shoulder responsibility for his national side.
But finally speaking to Radio C5N(as reported by Sky Sports), Lionel Messi has revealed the possible reason why Argentina performed so poorly during the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
“I think the generational change was very brusque,” Messi said.
“It should have been done slower. You need to give the kids time and confidence. The change was a really big one.”
“Do you know the number of times I’ve replayed the final and the chances we had? It would have been so different if we’d scored one of them,
“Being realistic, a lot of work is needed to be a powerhouse. These kids have played very few matches for the national team. We need to be patient and I have no doubt that we are going to be strong.”
Despite a disappointing summer, Lionel Messi has already managed to clock up 39 goals and provide 21 assists for Barcelona this season but many fans believe that being 31years old, the South American might just have played his final World Cup.
