Timo Werner Liverpool
Timo Werner (RB Leipzig, 11) kann sein Versagen nicht fassen, nachdem er völlig frei stehend über das Tor schoss; Enttäuschung, enttäuscht, Frustration, disappointed

Liverpool have moved one step closer to signing 24-year-old centre-forward Timo Werner from RB Leipzig – as per the Express.

Werner has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer and the Anfield outfit have always been his most favoured destination.

And now as per the Express, Liverpool have made contact with the Bundesliga outfit in hopes of signing Timo Werner during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The report claims: “Liverpool are believed to have already held discreet discussions with RB Leipzig, in which they laid out their intentions to sign Timo Werner. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have been in contact with RB Leipzig.

“The transfer saga looks set to be a dominant storyline in the coming months as the Reds and other clubs acclimatise to the current financial landscape.

“The Plan A for Liverpool at the end of this season has always been to sign Werner. Werner is the man who Klopp and the board want to bring through the door.”

Timo Werner to Liverpool now only a matter of time?

If this report from the Express is true then it’s only a matter of time before Liverpool get their hands on Timo Werner.

The forward has always shown an attachment towards working with Jurgen Klopp which is why clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United have not been able to make any significant headway into this transfer.

Last week there were reports that Klopp had held talks with Werner a couple of times during the lockdown and now the Premier League side seem to have moved onto phase two – holding discussions with Leipzig.

The player’s release clause is set to expire on June 15 but we don’t think the Reds will try and make a formal offer before that, which will immediately put the German side on the driver’s seat all throughout the summer.

But as per the report, Leipzig might not look to hold onto the player for one more season since next summer his release clause might plummet to £36 million – a risk which the Bundesliga side do not wish to take.

Timo Werner has played in 28 Bundesliga matches during the ongoing season and has scored 24 goals along with seven assists.
