Liverpool beat Arsenal on penalties in the Carabao Cup Round of 16 and next up they will take on Aston Villa in the quarter-finals.

The next round will be played on the 18th of December and this is a major issue for the Reds since the same day they are due to play in the Club World Cup in Qatar.

This obviously means some of Liverpool’s fixtures will be rescheduled but none the less they will have a pretty hectic calendar during the Christmas period.

So Jurgen Klopp has hinted that his side might have no other option but to pull out of the Carabao Cup.

Klopp said: “If they don’t find a place for us, an appropriate place, not 3 pm on Christmas Day or something, then we don’t play.

“They have to make it. You have to think about these things – if you have a fixture list, where one team cannot be part of all the games, then you have to think about it,”

“Hopefully it starts now. I think it’s fair that this problem is obvious now. We will not be the victim of this problem.

“We played tonight, we want to win it, if they don’t find a proper date for us, we cannot play the next round and whoever our opponent is will go through, or Arsenal.”

So what happens if Liverpool pull out of the Carabao Cup?

Well, Arsenal fans have been getting their hopes high thinking that they might get to play against Aston Villa if Liverpool pull out of the Carabao Cup.

But the fact of the matter is that it will be Villa who will go through to the next round if Liverpool are a no show.

Rule 4.4 reads[as reported by Football London]: “International and Representative matches and Football Association Cup Ties take precedence over matches in the Cup Competition. Any Club qualifying for a place in a UEFA club competition, up to a maximum of eight such Clubs, shall be exempt from participating in this Competition until Round Three.

“When the remaining number of Clubs entered is other than sixty-four the Management Committee shall arrange for byes where necessary. No Club shall have a bye in successive rounds of the Competition.”
