Liverpool receive a double injury boost but Klopp will still be without nine players for the Newcastle game

Liverpool will take on Newcastle United in midweek and Curtis Jones and Joel Matip will return to the matchday squad for this encounter.

The pair have been missing with injuries but they have returned to training this week and will be fully fit to face the Magpies. Jones is unlikely to come into the first XI but Joel Matip is undoubtedly going to be part of the starting line up.

Liverpool are already without Ibrahima Konate who is recovering from a knee injury so if Matip is ready then he’s surely going to replace Joe Gomez in central defence.

Apart from these two players, there are no other returnees for Liverpool even though the likes of Thiago and Jota are making good progress.

Klopp said in his pre-match press conference: “I think Diogo can train from Thursday on and Thiago I think slightly later, so we will see.

“Calvin is getting closer, Caoimh I saw now only walking outside going for normal goalkeeper training. So yeah, there’s light at the end of the tunnel, definitely.”

Liverpool go into this game at the back of a 9-0 win over Bournemouth but Newcastle United are a different beast altogether so beating them will be no walk in the park.

Eddie Howe has upped the standards at St James’ Park and just a few days ago, they held Manchester City to a draw.

While Liverpool are going in as the favourites but with so many absentees his will have very limited options off the bench, especially in midfield.

While Nunez will serve his final game of the suspension, Liverpool will also be without Elliot, Oxlade-Chamberlain and also Naby Keita.

Without these players, Henderson, Milner and Fabinho will probably pair up in the middle of the pitch but there’s also a chance that summer signing Fabio Carvalho also comes into the side.

The 9-0 win was definitely a statement of intent from Liverpool but they need to back this one with a win or else Jurgen Klopp and his players will be left with a lot to do towards the end of the season.
