Ousmane Dembele to the Premier League

Liverpool might be looking at Barcelona outcast Ousmane Dembele as a backup option in case they fail to sign Timo Werner from Leipzig – as per Mundo Deportivo.

The report states: “Ousmane Dembélé has always been a footballer to the liking of Jürgen Klopp.

“That is why in England they link the Barça winger as the main option for the front in case the ‘9’ Timo Werner cannot stop at Anfield.

“Although they occupy different positions, Klopp has an old aspiration in Dembélé since he could not train him in Dortmund when he was already in Liverpool but he enjoyed it from a distance shining in his old club.”

Why Liverpool are eyeing Ousmane Dembele?

Timo Werner’s release clause at Leipzig expires in the middle of next month and we are pretty confident, the Anfield outfit will not be able to submit a formal bid before that.

And once this clause terminates, the German side will have the upper hand in this transfer which is why Liverpool fear they might not be able to land the 24-year-old during the summer.

Having said that Ousmane Dembele is in no way the perfect replacement for a centre-forward like Timo Werner and Jurgen Klopp’s current contingency plan is set to benefit Chelsea immensely.

The Blues also have a strong interest in Werner but all this while they have always been behind Liverpool in this race. But now with the Reds looking at Ousmane Dembele, Chelsea might finally be able to move into the forefront and sign the German international.

Barcelona want around £53million for the Frenchman which is in the same region as Werner’s current release clause and maybe this is another reason why Liverpool have selected the former Dortmund man as an alternative.

It’s pretty clear Liverpool are not willing to spend too much in the transfer market this summer but Chelsea do not have such an issue since they have not signed a single player over the past two transfer windows.
