West Ham United were involved in a relegation battle for a last portion of the 2017-18 Premier League season and in order to ensure that such a catastrophe did not occur this campaign, the Hammers brought in Manuel Pellegrini as their new boss.

And ever since his arrival, the former Man City manager has made a number of significant changes to the current squad.

Pellegrini has brought in as many as nine new players to the London Stadium during the summer transfer window and that too on a very strict budget of around £100 million.

And to be very honest, there are a number of players in the current bunch who are sure to spike the interest of the Hammers fans and also up their hopes of finishing in the top half of the Premier League table this season.

But their first game of the 2018-19 season was sort of a reality check for the fans as well as the club after they were thrashed and humiliated 4-0 by Liverpool at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s men ran riot after the London club and Manuel Pellegrini’s side had little to no answer to all their troubles.

And this defeat has raised a number of questions about Manuel Pellegrini’s team selection with the most debated one being, ‘Did West Ham lose to Liverpool because their manager chose to start a whole of newcomers?’

A number of people have asked this question while pointing fingers at the manager and the media chose to throw this same doubt to summer signing Lukasz Fabianski who arrived from Swansea City.

When asked about the team selection, Fabianski chose to give a very political answer which clearly understated the fact that the players still had a long way to go before they could play as one unit.

Fabianski said: “That’s a tricky question and it’s hard to answer that. Obviously, when you sign more players, it always takes time to gel. I hope in our case it will be quicker rather than longer and we click pretty soon.

“I think we had a pretty good pre-season but it was always going to be tough playing against a side like Liverpool.”

Thankfully though, West Ham United’s next Premier League game is against AFC Bournemouth at home which will give the players as well as the manager some much needed time to fine tune themselves.

After the Bournemouth clash, the Hammers travel across London to take on Arsenal who also are facing the same kinds of problems under new boss Unai Emery.
