Man City team news vs Southampton: Ruben Dias to return in central defence?

Pep Guardiola Man City

Man City picked up a very important win against Chelsea in the Premier League last weekend and those three points mean the Cityzens have now opened up an 11 point gap at the top of the table.

Liverpool have played one game less than Manchester City so Klopp’s men can still close the gap but after beating Chelsea, there’s no denying that City are now the favourites to win yet another Premier League title.

Next up, Man City take on Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium and once again, Pep Guardiola’s side should be looking to pick up an easy win on Saturday. The Etihad outfit have won their previous 12 league matches and have managed to keep a clean sheet in 5 out of their previous seven PL games. The Saints, on the other hand, have stumbled in three out of their previous five Premier League games and going into this weekend’s match, they sit 12 on the table with 24 points.

Pep Guardiola has only a handful of absentees so he should be able to name a strong side on Saturday and barring a sensational performance from Southampton we don’t see anything but Man City picking up all three points.

Man City team news vs Southampton:

The Man City manager chose to keep Ruben Dias on the bench during the Chelsea win but the centre-back should return to the starting line up this weekend, replacing John Stones.

Cancelo and Kyle Walker are some of the first names on Guardiola’s teamsheet so they will obviously start but the midfield could see one or two reshuffles.

Rodri has been playing constant games and there’s an outside chance that Fernandinho could come into the side should the manager decide to rest the former.

Kevin De Bruyne was outstanding against Chelsea, scoring the only goal of the match and picking up a rating of 8.5 out of 10. He will obviously start but the other midfielder, Bernardo Silva could move to the bench.

Ilkay Gundogan came off the bench during the weekend to play the final few minutes but the German is expected to get a starting role this time around.

Riyad Mahrez has gone for the AFCON so there’s a chance that Gabriel Jesus will play on the right wing. Jack Grealish has been hit and miss this season for Man City so he’s likely to move to the bench as Raheem Sterling occupies the left wing.
