Manchester United are favourite to sign Denis Zakaria from Borussia Mönchengladbach during the summer transfer window – as per reports.

Denis Zakaria joined the German side in 2017 from Swiss side BSC Young Boys for a reported transfer fee of 12 million euros and this season he has really impressed for the Bundesliga outfit.

So far the defensive midfielder has played in 23 league games for Monchengladbach and recently he has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

While United are the current frontrunners to sign the 23-year-old but as per reports in Germany, Bayern Munich have also shown a keen interest in the player and could make a move for him during the summer.

Right now Ole has claimed that Nemanja Matic will remain with the club beyond the summer but the Norwegian will surely look to bring in a long-term replacement for the Serbian before the next season kicks off.

And as things stand, Denis Zakaria seems to be that man.

Can United sign Denis Zakaria?

Apart from Manchester United and Bayern Munich, there are a number of other big European clubs who are interested in signing the defensive midfielder.

But recently the club’s sporting director had claimed that Monchengladbach could hold onto Zakaria if the club can manage to qualify for the Champions League next season.

“I think that there is a very good chance that Denis will still be with us next year if we qualify for the Champions League,” Eberl recently said.

Right now, the German outfit are fourth on the league table and they look all set to move to the top-tier of Europe but in England, Man United too are making a strong case of getting back into the Champions League.

So if Ole’s men can get back amongst the big boys then there’s a massive chance that Denis Zakaria will choose to join the Old Trafford outfit in case of staying back with his current club.
