On Wednesday, injured duo Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial were seen returning back to Carrington which indicated that they might be fit before Liverpool visit town.

Both Martial and Lingard suffered muscle injuries during Man United’s loss to PSG in the Champions League and the manager had claimed that they would be out of action for the next two weeks.

I don’t think we will see them in the next two games, Ole said last Friday.

“Let’s hope they heal quickly, but it looks like they might be out for two or three weeks.”

But on Wednesday numerous reports claimed that Martial and Lingard have returned ahead of schedule and could very well be in contention for the Man United vs Liverpool game on Sunday.

And now Manchester United have chosen to release an official verdict and it does not look good.

Via their official website, Man United have claimed that Martial and Lingard are still not fully fit and they still might miss the Premier League clash this weekend.

This will surely be a setback for Solskjaer since the absence of these two players mean that Man United lose a considerable amount of pace on the wings.

Against Chelsea earlier this week, the manager set up a team with two strikers which ended up working on their favour.

But Liverpool have the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah who operate from the wings and a lack of pace for Man United on the sidelined might very well have handed the game in Jurgen Klopp’s favour.

Apart from Martial and Lingard, Man United have Matteo Darmian, Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo out of action.

But the trio has hardly featured under Solskjaer this season so there’s very little to worry about there.
