Man United had one foot in the semi-finals of the Europa League but they quite shockingly threw away a 2-0 lead against Sevilla in the first leg.

The Spanish side not only drew the first leg 2-2 but Manchester United came out of that match with some serious issues. The Premier League side have made things a lot harder for themselves and if they want to pick up another silverware, Ten Hag’s men cannot afford to be complacent.

Sevilla haven’t lost to Manchester United in their last five meetings and because they are playing at home this week, they will be confident of causing an upset. Ten Hag will have some serious selection issues in the 2nd round but United are going to be the favourites.

Based on how they have played this season, Man United should be able to overcome the Sevilla test but the English side will be without some very important players and this could certainly affect the outcome of the tie.

Manchester United’s team news, injuries and suspensions:

Lisandro Martinez and Varane both picked up injuries last week and the pair is ruled out. While Varane is out for a few weeks, Licha is out for the rest of the season.

The Argentine international has undergone surgery to repair a metatarsal fracture so his campaign has come to an abrupt end. The absence of the first-choice central defensive pairing means Maguire and Lindelof are going to take the field.

Tyrell Malacia missed Sunday’s league win due to a problem in his knee while Sabitzer pulled out of the starting XI with a late injury. Both of them are not likely to be present for Thursday’s game but the left-back position won’t be an issue because Shaw’s up and running again.

The midfield is going to be a major cause of concern for the Man United boss because not only is Sabitzer missing but Bruno Fernandes is also ruled out due to a suspension. Thankfully, Eriksen has made a full recovery and he will be the one operating in the No 10 role this week.

Marcus Rashford and Garnacho are both recovering from injuries which means Ten Hag will have to stick with Jadon Sancho despite him being consistently poor. Sancho has lost his form and confidence but the manager has no other option but to keep using him on the left wing.

Martial’s return has been a major boost for Man United because the Frenchman is much more involved in the buildup. The Frenchman is definitely going to start but he won’t be able to last the full 90 minutes which means Weghorst is going to come in as a second-half sub.
