Man United had a superb win in midweek as they knocked Barcelona out of the Europa League but they will have no time to rest or celebrate because, on Sunday, they have to play in the EFL Cup final.

Manchester United will take on Newcastle United at Wembley and this will be Erik ten Hag’s first shot at a silverware since taking charge at Old Trafford. United haven’t won a trophy in a really long time so the fans will be hoping that their team can carry on with their great form this weekend as well.

Man United were absolutely marvellous against Barcelona on Thursday night so it’s very evident that everyone will be backing them to beat the Magpies. Also, Eddie Howe’s team has seen a dip in form in recent months and they are winless in their previous three matches.

The Red Devils haven’t lost to Newcastle United in their last 6 meetings and unless the Magpies play out of their skins, it’s very hard for them to cause an upset. Obviously, this is a final so Eddie Howe’s men will give it their all but it’s United’s trophy to lose right now.

Manchester United’s team news and injuries:

The first big blow for Erik ten Hag is the fact that Anthony Martial will not be ready in time to play the final. He has been recovering from a hip injury but will be unavailable on Sunday.

“No, he will not be available,” Erik has told reporters.

Marcus Rashford picked up a small knock against Barcelona and when asked but the striker’s injury, Ten Hag failed to give any concrete update.

He said: “I don’t know. Players are now coming in [to Carrington], we have to do investigations, medical [checks].

“Straight after a game you can’t say, you have to wait for medical [checks].”

The latest updates have been suggesting that Rashford’s injury is not a worry and he will be fine to start vs Newcastle United.

Casemiro has served his domestic ban so he will be available on Sunday and this is a major boost for the Man United boss. Fred had a superb game, scoring the equaliser on Thursday but we think the manager is going to rest him and bring in Sabitzer.

The absence of Martial means Weghorst will get another start and now that Antony has returned to full fitness, the January signing will play upfront will Bruno Fernandes returning to the No 10 role.

The defence shouldn’t see any major changes but then there’s a chance that the Man United manager could swap Wan-Bissaka and Dalot.
