Matteo Guendouzi has featured in both of Arsenal’s matches after the Premier League resumed last week but the midfielder has been in the eye of the storm this weekend during Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Brighton away from home.

With Xhaka and Lucas Torreira both out injured, the young Frenchman started in central midfield once again alongside Dani Ceballos and speaking after the match, Ian Wright hailed Guendouzi for his fighting spirit and urged the other regulars to follow suit.

Wright said on Match of the Day, as reported: “He’s got that about him as well – you’d think he’s been poleaxed, but it’s just a little [one].

“He[Maupay] and Guendouzi had been having it all game and I think he was talking about Guendouzi at the end.

“He’s [Guendouzi] given him a bit there and he’ll probably get in trouble for that. But we need to be showing that fight, for me Al.”

Matteo Guendouzi got into a tussle with Neal Maupay after the final whistle at the Amex and now video footage has shown the midfielder grabbing the forward by the throat and as per reports, this incident could get the youngster into some trouble.

FA could look into this matter and if found guilty then the 21-year-old could be suspended for Arsenal’s game vs Southampton in midweek.

Mirror claim: “Football Association chiefs are waiting to see whether the row is included in referee Martin Atkinson’s report before deciding if they will take action.

“The FA could still step in even if it was not seen and take retrospective action by charging Guendouzi which could lead to a fine and suspension.

“But it would seem highly likely that Guendouzi gets charged unless Atkinson says he saw the incident and decided not to take action. But under the FA’s fast track process, Guendouzi could even be banned before Thursday’s trip to Southampton.”

This will be a major cause of concern for Mikel Areta since Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torriera are already out with injuries and so if Matteo Guendouzi is suspended for the Saints clash then the manager will have no other option but to start an academy graduate in that central midfielder’s role.
