Rangers FC are trying really hard to get their hands on 19-year-old attacking midfielder Dion McGhee during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The youngster has come up through the ranks at Manchester United but the OT outfit chose not to offer him a new deal meaning he is now a free agent and as per Noel Whelan, the Oldham-born lad could be on his way to Ibrox next season.

When asked about the possibility of signing McGhee, Whelan told Football Insider: “It is, it is. Any player that gets released from Manchester United at a young age, you know they’ve got a good background, you know they’re going to have the technique and the right attitude.

“It doesn’t surprise me that clubs are looking. Obviously he’s still very, very young, still time to nurture these players as well and for him to progress his career and football game.

“If you’re going to get players like that coming out of Manchester United, released, you know you’re going to be getting something good to work with and progress, maybe, into a multi-million-pound player.

“You can’t turn your nose up at these sort of players coming out of these big clubs.”

Can Rangers FC get their hands on Dion McGhee?

Steven Gerrard will undoubtedly play a key role in luring in the 19-year-old to Scotland during the summer but the Gers aren’t the only clubs interested in signing him.

Premier League sides West Ham United and Watford are also eager to bring him on board and there’s a big chance McGhee might want to remain in England next season.

Yes, moving to Rangers FC will mean he has more chances of playing in the first XI but the Hammers and Watford are not expected to sign big-name players this summer meaning they could rely on young and cheap talent to get them through the next season.

And if that happens to be the case then Dion McGhee could be playing in the Premier League or the Championship.
