Rangers blew away St Johnstone by a scoreline of 5-1 this weekend in the Premiership and after suffering such a heavy defeat, St Johnstone winger Mathew Kennedy has revealed why chose to snub both Rangers and Celtic.

Kennedy came up the ranks at St Johnstone and he quickly caught the attention of a number of top clubs.

Both Celtic and Rangers were eager to sign up the youngster but Mathew Kennedy snubbed both these Scotland giants to make a much harder but totally acceptable move to Premier League side Everton.

But the dream move to Everton did not particularly go as planned since all that the winger managed to do during his time at Goodison Park was to move around a number of clubs on several loan deals.

Mathew Kennedy was eventually sold to Cardiff City in 2015 and after making just 22 appearances for Cardiff, the winger rejoined St Johnstone for a second stint during this summer.

But the 23-year-old has made it clear that he does not regret snubbing either Celtic or Rangers.

Mathew Kennedy said“When the Everton move happened, I had Rangers and Celtic interested,

“I couldn’t turn Everton down. It was a dream come true. Everyone wants to go to the Premier League and I was no different.

“I still look back on that time and think I definitely improved as a player. I don’t regret not going to Rangers or Celtic. I achieved my dream as a young boy by playing for Kilmarnock.”
