Mesut Ozil Arsenal team news

Mesut Ozil has been spending time on the fringes ever since the start of the 2019-20 season but he got a rare start in the Premier League this weekend vs Wolves.

Even though Arsenal did not manage to win that match but Ozil was one of the better players for Emery on the pitch and till the time he was on the pitch, the Gunners looked more threating going forward.

And the fact that Emery chose to start with him on Saturday has been praised by a number of people who have been saying that the manager has finally woken up.

But according to Tony Cascarino, the decision of playing Mesut Ozil vs the Hornets was nothing but poor leadership from the Spanish manager.

At first, this might come as a bit of a shocker but Cascarino makes a very valid point and by using the Mesut Ozil reference he points out to the fact that Unai Emery might very well be heading out of the door pretty soon.

“Unai Emery’s decision to start Mesut Özil against Wolves smacked of poor leadership,” Cascarino wrote in The Times.

“If the Arsenal manager genuinely believed Özil was the man to lift his faltering team, he would have used him more than twice in the Premier League this season.

“Instead, his selection seemed motivated by a desire to appease the Arsenal fans.

“If Emery is to turn things around at the Emirates, he needs to do more than simply pick a fan favourite.”

Initially, Emery was adamant that he did not want to use Mesut Ozil especially in the Premier League but the fact that the German started on Saturday despite most of the first-team regulars being fit clearly is a sign that the manager is a bit winded.

There have been talks that Jose Mourinho is waiting to take charge of the club as soon as the current manager is sacked and so if Unai Emery cannot get his act straight soon enough then he will surely be heading out of the Emirates.
