Man City will take on Liverpool in the English Premier League next weekend and it looks like they will be without their chief playmaker – David Silva.

The Spaniard has been a key figure for City ever since he joined the club and this campaign he has already provided four assists and scored two goals in just 11 league matches.

But now reports are of the view that he might be ruled out of the Liverpool clash due to the injury he picked up while playing against Southampton this past weekend.

The midfielder had to be taken off at half-time during the Saints game and with Guardiola later revealing that he had suffered a muscular injury.

“David Silva was injured,” the manager said[as reported by Sky Sports].

“Five minutes before the first half ended he told me he had a muscular problem.

“When he has a muscular problem and cannot play more minutes it is because he has something and when it is a muscular problem it is always a minimum of 10-12 days.”

And now the initial tests claim David Silva might be out of action for about two weeks which means he will miss the trip to Anfield on Sunday.

While this is not the final verdict but even if he is deemed somewhat fit we don’t think Guardiola will risk playing the 33-year-old – especially since we still have about three-fourth of the season still left. But the absence of Silva will surely be a huge blow for the manager’s plans especially since he has other injury concerns too.

Last weekend, David Silva was replaced by Gabriel Jesus and looking at the bench strength we think the manager has no other option but to name the Brazilian in the first Xi on Sunday.

But since Man City will be playing away from home, there is also a faint chance that Guardiola might opt for a change in formation in which case Cancelo could be deployed on the left-hand side.

While the City manager will be sweating over the injury to David Silva, Jurgen Klopp, on the other hand, will be very delighted since this is the perfect opportunity for them to pick up a win vs their arch-rivals and open up a nine-point gap at the top of the table.
