Arsenal have a few players whose contract expires during the summer and one of them is defender Nacho Monreal.

Monreal joined the Gunners in 2013 from Malaga and since then the Spaniard has played in various roles across the defence.

Last season Nacho Monreal played a number of games at centre-back and this season the 32-year-old has been playing at left-back under new manager Unai Emery.

Earlier in the season, the left-back had expressed his desire to stay by saying“I’ve always said I am really happy, I feel very happy playing for Arsenal,

“I came six years ago. I have a good relationship with them.

“We are in contact in any moment so don’t worry about that. I am happy here. That is the most important thing.”

But with his contract expiring this summer some reports had suggested that the club would let the player leave at the end of the season.

Now though as per ESPN, Unai Emery has come to the conclusion that he needs Nacho Monreal next season as a result of which the club have chosen to activate the one-year extension clause in his deal.

The 32-year-old has played in 10 Premier League games so far this season but he is currently recovering from a hamstring injury.

But recent reports claim that the player will make himself fit in time to be available for selection for the West Ham vs Arsenal clash.
