Premier League side Chelsea are looking to bring in a new centre-back this summer and one of their targets is Bayern Munich’s 25-year-old defender Niklas Sule.

Tuchel wants to add an experienced centre-back to his squad for the upcoming season which is why the Blues have been keeping tabs on the German international. But, it looks like they could miss out on him.

The Sun is claiming that Bayern Munich are aware of Chelsea’s interest in their defender and they are now willing to offer him a new deal at the club.

The English tabloid cites Sport Bild writing: “CHELSEA transfer target Niklas Sule could extend his Bayern Munich contract, according to reports.

“Thomas Tuchel is believed to be keen on the centre-back but so far the Blues have not made a bid for Sule, 25. But with just a year remaining on his current Bayern contract, there is some doubt about Sule’s future.

“The Bundesliga champions will reportedly look to secure his services for a further year, report Sport Bild.

“The outlet also claims Chelsea are still interested, but state an offer has been a long time coming from the European champions.”

Will Chelsea miss out on Niklas Sule?

Niklas Sule has only one year left on his current deal with Bayern so Chelsea might still be able to sign him on a real bargain deal this summer.

But, there’s no doubt this new contract talk is going to throw a spanner into their plans and since the defender has shown no signs of discontent, he could very well accept the offer.

Bayern Munich had decided to cash in on Niklas Sule so they could offset some losses suffered due to the pandemic but now it looks like they have changed their minds.

We are sure this new development will not degrade Chelsea’s interest in the German international but thankfully Niklas Sule is not the only centre-back on Tuchel’s radar. Chelsea have also been linked with defenders like Jules Kounde and Raphael Varane this summer.

Sule joined Bayern Munich from Hoffenheim in 2017 and to date, he has played in 133 games for the German giants across all competitions.
